Peter Alexander Kerr was born in Gourock, Scotland on December 14, 1885. He was the son of master mariner Donald Kerr who was born 1856 and died May 15, 1923, and mother Catherine Kelso , who was born in March 18, 1857 in Lochranza, and died February 18, 1900. He grew up in Lochranza on the Ilse of Arran in Scotland. He had an older brother Robert, (born in 1883) and a younger brother, Donald (born January 31, 1888) and sister Marita Macmillan Kerr Yonge (born on November 15, 1892). Facing the lack of job prospects in Scotland, Peter immigrated to San Francisco on the vessel Dorothy Alexander by way of Canada in 1922. He relocated to Los Angeles County shortly thereafter where he married Abby Ward Reed in Prescott, Arizona on June 8, 1926. Abby had been a widow for eight years and brought a daughter Mary Isabel Reed (born September 16,1916) to the new marriage. In 1927 on June 20th , Abby and Pete welcomed twins Pauline and Roberta to the family and in 1928 their son , Donald Allister was born. Daughter Roberta passed away in 1932. The family lived at the Ward family home at 4829 Wicopee in Eagle Rock. Peter Kerr took a job as Water Engineer of the Hollywood reservoir in the early 1940s where Pete and Abby lived with their children Pauline and Donald until Pauline left for U.S.C. about 1948. Peter and Abby retired to 28857 Greyfox Road in Malibu, California where they built a house and lived to the end of their lives.
